Miniature Dachshunds Hereditary Clear of cord1 PRA

The Dachshund Breed Council has published data from the Kennel Club on Miniature Dachshunds that have been registered as Hereditary Clear of cord1 PRA.  The data show:

  • More than 1500 Mini Longs have been registered as Hereditary Clear of cord1 PRA
  • Nearly 1000 Mini Smooths have been registered as Hereditary Clear of cord1 PRA
  • More than 100 Mini Wires have been registered as Hereditary Clear of cord1 PRA

These data, in conjunction with information published in the Breed Council’s 2011 Health Report, show how much progress has been made in reducing the frequency of the cord1 PRA mutation since the DNA test became available in 2005.

DNA testing for cord1 PRA is now a Kennel Club Assured Breeder Scheme Requirement for all three varieties of Miniature Dachshund.
