The Dachshund History Project

The Dachshund History Project is attempting to document the history of a dog breed that was recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1895.  A diverse group of people spearheaded by Dan Harrison set out to do that in 2011, despite the myriad challenges involved.  The website is, and will be, a “work in progress” as contributions are gathered from a wide range of sources.

The purpose of The Dachshund History Project website is to record the history of the Dachshund breed in the United States. As a result, this is a place to record objectively, the history of our breed as a whole and of individual dogs who made a quantifiable contribution to our breed.

For those interested in the history of UK Dachshunds, the Champions’ Gallery at is the place to go.
