Crufts entries all done!
This year, Sue is entering two dogs at Crufts: a Wirehaired Dachshund bitch, Champion Sunsong Wish Upon A Star who is two years old and whose pet name is “Crunchie”. We’ll also be showing “Cadbury” (Sunsong Whisper A Promise) a two year old Wirehaired Dachshund dog. Crunchie is a brindle colour (sometimes known as Wild Boar) and Cadbury (you guessed it) is Chocolate and Tan. Crunchie will be entered in the Open Bitch Class and Cadbury in the Limit Dog class. We’ve not entered our Mini Smooths at Crufts this year.
Both dogs were bred by us. Crunchie is a daughter of our Twix mated to a dog we imported from America called Stripey. She’s pretty much pure American breeding because her mother also has another dog we imported from the USA as her grandfather. Crunchie’s mother and Cadbury’s mother were sisters, so he too has a pedigree full of American dogs.
Both Crunchie and Cadbury qualified for Crufts by virtue of having won Challenge Certificates (CCs) which put them in the Kennel Club Stud Book. Crunchie won her third CC at the Birmingham National Show in 2012 and Cadbury won his first CC at the Welsh Kennel Club show in 2012. Cadbury also has three Reserve Challenge Certificates.
Crufts is a great day out and if we happen to do well with the dogs then that will add to the fun. We never go to Crufts with any great expectations of winning. It’s one of those shows where anything can happen in the judging ring, so you just have to enter and look forward to an amazing day talking to lots of visitors who want to say hello to the dogs and soaking up the atmosphere.
I’m also Chairman of the Dachshund Breed Council so I’ll be keen to visit the Dachshund booths at the Discover Dogs part of Crufts and to say a big thank you to all our helpers who will be showcasing our breed over all four days of the show. Discover Dogs is a brilliant opportunity for the public to speak with real breed experts and have a cuddle with a Dachshund!
