Britain’s first cloned dog is a Dachshund!

According to today’s Daily Mirror, Winnie, a 12-year-old dachshund, was reproduced as a puppy called “mini Winnie” in a South Korean laboratory, making her Britain’s first cloned dog. The cloning operation cost £60,000 but Winnie’s owner won the prize in a competition.

The £60,000 Puppy: Cloning Man’s Best Friend can be seen on Channel 4 tonight at 10 p.m.  This film follows a unique competition where British dog owners compete to win the chance to have their beloved pooch cloned. It also explores the ethics of cloning.
