Puppy buyers: learn your DOG ABCs at Discover Dogs 17-18 October 2015

The Kennel Club created the DOG ABCs for Puppy Awareness Week which ran from 1-7 September. The DOG ABCs cover all the steps that puppy buyers should be looking for in a breeder before they buy:

  • DOCUMENTATION including diet sheet, worming record and vaccination information
  • OBSERVE the puppies interacting with their mum (See Mum!)
  • GOOD HEALTH – always ensure the parent dogs have had the required or recommended screening tests and the puppies won’t be affected by an inherited condition that could have been avoided
  • APPROVED MICROCHIP DATABASE such as Petlog – microchipping will be compulsory for all puppies before they are sold, from April 2016
  • BREEDING ENVIRONMENT must be seen; only buy a puppy from the place where it was born and raised
  • CONTRACT of sale should be provided
  • SOCIALISATION should have taken place before you buy.

Come and meet the Dachshunds at Discover Dogs 2015. London’s biggest dog event is back and bigger than ever! This year, Eukanuba Discover Dogs will take place on 17th and 18th October 2015 at ExCel in London where you will have the chance to meet hundreds of dogs (not just Dachshunds) and talk to experienced breeders and owners to get the best possible advice if you are considering buying a puppy.

You have less than a week to win a free pair of tickets.
